Can Tuning into Nature help us be Successful?

Tuning into Nature

Can "Tuning into Nature" help people become successful?

This is something I have been thinking about this week.

A study on the effects of nature on children by Kathy Jordan in 20192019 ( from the Article “8 Ways Nature Helps Kids Learn - Childhood by Nature) stated that they found evidence that nature has a restoring effect on attention; improves self-discipline; reduces stress; increases physical activity and fitness and promotes motivation for and engagement in learning.

The benefits of exercise on our mental and physical health are well known and understood . During the height of  covid - 19 Lockdown, we were still urged to go out once a day for an hour, for exercise.

But does it also have an effect on our levels of success?

Do successful and wealthy people commune with nature?

I have become increasingly aware that successful/and wealthy people generally spend time daily on exercise.

It appears to be a general consensus, and part of the routine for many extremely successful and wealthy people

However, taking exercise and communing with nature may not be exactly the same thing. Some people may take a run along the beach each day but for others, their exercise may take place indoors in a gym or a swimming pool.

Wabi Sabi
Beth Kempton wrote a fascinating book called Wabi Sabi.
This is apparently a concept that exists implicitly in Japan without being frequently articulated. It values simplicity and imperfection, while recognizing the impermanence of all things. There is much that we can learn from its philosophy, in regard to our relationships with others, our career paths, our approach to failure, and the way we decorate our homes.
One key message of Wabi Sabi is the value of tuning into nature.

When we pay attention to nature, we begin to notice a whole world of quiet and simple magic. We also become more present.
Beth wrote that as we pay closer attention to nature, another aspect of Wabi Sabi becomes apparent as well: the transient nature of everything. Seasons come and go, flowers grow at certain times of year and then die, to be replaced by something else. In the UK, I look forward to the snowdrops in the first months of the year. These are then replaced by other spring flowers like daffodils and tulips. The trees begin to blossom. A favourite of mine are the Cherry Trees in the spring. As the season changes into summer, then autumn and winter - each season has something special about it.

According to the concept of Wabi Sabi, this reminds us of our own impermanence, and tells us that we must focus on what really matters now, before it’s too late. We need to accept who we are and not strive for perfection, to accept change.is inevitable, to accept our own imperfection but to continue to seek perfection.

The Seven Laws of Spiritual Success

Deepak Chopra has written a wonderful book called The Seven Laws of Spiritual Success.  I highly recommend you read it or listen to it on audible.

The 7 Laws are:
1 The Law of Pure Potentiality
2 The Law of Giving
3 The Law of Karma
4 The Law of Least Effort
5 The Law of Intention and Desire
6 The Law of Detachment
7 The Law of Dharma

The first law - The Law of Pure Potentiality - is, according to Deepak, based on the fact that our essential state and spiritual essence is "pure consciousness" which is "infinite", unbounded" and "pure joy".

He recommends spending time each day communing with nature and observing and appreciating nature around us - the beautiful sunset, the shape of flower petals, the sound of the birds, the smell of the grass or the ocean.

With the pure joy that comes with this, one can tap into our infinite creativity and all possibilities are available to us.

So at the very least, it appears that Tuning into Nature, has a beneficial effect on our mental health.

Perhaps, it also has a positive effect on achieving success too!

To Your Success

Kate

Are You Thinking Ahead to Post-Corona Life?

Now, Concept, Reminder, Motivation, Time

Are You Thinking Ahead to Post-Corona Life?

Many of you focus on how to survive the next few months.

I'm not knocking it - this is a crazy time, so it pays to have a strategy.
Having said that...
Are you thinking about what comes next?
For when the world returns to more-or-less normal?
Because it will return. With every crisis, folk said it would change everything forever. But let's not exaggerate it. 9/11 changed the world... and even so, things mostly returned to normal. Same again with 2008 and (for some Americans) Trump's election and a dozen other catastrophes.
The 'new normal' is always closer to the old normal than it might seem.
This pandemic is no different. It will break because pandemics always do. The first-hit countries are already bouncing back - the rest of us have to wait it out. I doubt the coronavirus will ever disappear, but it won't dominate forever. It can't.
I'm sure the smart entrepreneurs and executives are thinking ahead to when crowds become a thing again.
How about you?

If you invest in yourself, though?

In your mind, your body, your emotions and your finances?
You'll be out the door and in the sunshine while everyone else is rubbing the sleep from their eyes.

Take Action NOW!

Mindfulness and Meditation

Head, Man, Person, People, Face, Profile

WHAT EXACTLY IS MINDFULNESS?
Mindfulness is not just a way of thinking about others and their state of mind, but it can also be used a form of meditation. Using Mindfulness Meditation allows you to focus on the moment, becoming aware of your senses and what you are feeling right then and there. When you are able to focus just on that particular moment, there is no need to try to interpret things or make judgments about how you feel. You are simply present. If you have ever studied Eckhart Tolle or other spiritual teachers, you realize that the present moment is all that actually exists. The past no longer exists, and the future has not yet come. So focusing, being mindful, of the moment, can help you relax and eliminate stress. Think about all the time we spend planning for, or worrying about the future, thinking negative thoughts about the past, worrying about all the things we need to do - pick up the kids from school, make dinner tonight, pay the bills, etc. All those things are draining and can even be exhausting. When you are able to be mindful, you are able to put those things away, and focus your attention on the present moment, which reduces your stress and anxiety. Mindfulness meditation can be very powerful!

WHY SHOULD I MEDITATE? For years, spiritual teachers and their students have been practicing meditation, and espousing its benefits. Now, thanks to advances in modern science and medicine, there are actually many clinical trials that scientifically back up these claims. It is amazing that for hundreds of years people have known that meditation works, but there is always a certain percentage of the population that needs to know how and why before they will believe it. There are so many studies now that provide empirical data as to the how and why of meditation, and its effects on the body and brain. Those studies are so diverse that they need to be in a separate article on their own. But suffice to say that the overall evidence of these studies show that meditation is effective for reducing stress, anxiety, pain, depression, and even a host of "medical" conditions and disease.

The best way to develop your mindfulness meditation routine is to practice, practice, practice. Do so, and you may be truly amazed with the results.
