Book Summaries

Book, Reading, Read, Relaxation

What I have Learnt This Week

I have read some interesting books this week

1 The only little Prayer you Need by Debra Landwehr Engle
2 Beyond Willpower by Alexander Loyd
 3 Mindware - Richard E Nisbett 2015

 Some Learning Points

1 Debra states that for healing, you only need a little prayer which is repeated daily and frequently "Please heal my fear based thoughts"

2 Alexander talks about a technique for healing involving a simple prayer such as "I wish that whatever was causing (pain/fear/anxiety) would heal This is followed by a simple few steps of physically making circular motions on the heart, forehead and top of the head for a few minutes each day. These are consecutive actions and the circular motions are altered in direction every 10 - 15 seconds. I have not tried this myself but if you try it and have success, let me know!

3 Mindware is very different; it is about "Tools for Smart Thinking"
Richard states that a correlation of things does not prove a causation and that people favor evidence that matches their assumptions.
In addition, he states that humans fear risk more than they relish gain and tend to overvalue what they own. (This is in reference to something called a "Loss aversion"and "Endowment affect")

He recommends using something called Occams Razor to find the simplest solution - simpler theories are easier to test. This is because complicated evidence rarely explains evidence as well as simpler ones do

I hope you found this interesting!

About Me

Hi, my name is Kate. I am the author of this blog, which I started a few weeks ago.

I am in my mid 50`s, divorced with 3 children. I went through a very acrimonious divorce and moved into my current home in 2011. This was a life changing experience for me, and I have had a long and difficult journey to get here.

I have tried many different ways to overcome my difficulties and these include mainly the areas of mental and financial health and well being.

In the past, I have tried Internet Marketing, Utility Warehouse and Usborne Books promotion. These are all great opportunities.

I also have an interest in Property, in particular, something called No Money Down. This training is carried out by Kevin McDonnell, through Progressive Property.

However, I always seem to hit personal stumbling blocks!

Time and Time again, I manage to make a good start, then hit many obstacles.
Some obstacles I manage to overcome but I never seem to be able to improve my overall situation.

Why is this?

I ask myself over and over!

I work hard, put in many hours.Yet my overall circumstances remain one of constant hardship.

I recently discovered John Assaraf and his work makes so much sense to me.

I understand now that my mind is subconsciously blocking my progress because of my inner beliefs and values about myself, that do not match or align with where I think I want to be in the future.

My journey has led me to understand the power of the mind and I have read and follow many people who are active in this area , such as John Assaraf, Bob Proctor and Jim Rohn,

I recently developed an interest in social media (as a result of the Lock Down) and I aim to promote the people who I follow, that I believe help me the most.

At present nobody has seen my Blog but who knows what may happen in the future?
In the meantime, it feels a bit like a diary - just me on my own.
I may write some more personal things on here from time to time, and if anyone happens to read this, I hope it will help in some way.

To your own personal success.

Are You Thinking Ahead to Post-Corona Life?

Now, Concept, Reminder, Motivation, Time

Are You Thinking Ahead to Post-Corona Life?

Many of you focus on how to survive the next few months.

I'm not knocking it - this is a crazy time, so it pays to have a strategy.
Having said that...
Are you thinking about what comes next?
For when the world returns to more-or-less normal?
Because it will return. With every crisis, folk said it would change everything forever. But let's not exaggerate it. 9/11 changed the world... and even so, things mostly returned to normal. Same again with 2008 and (for some Americans) Trump's election and a dozen other catastrophes.
The 'new normal' is always closer to the old normal than it might seem.
This pandemic is no different. It will break because pandemics always do. The first-hit countries are already bouncing back - the rest of us have to wait it out. I doubt the coronavirus will ever disappear, but it won't dominate forever. It can't.
I'm sure the smart entrepreneurs and executives are thinking ahead to when crowds become a thing again.
How about you?

If you invest in yourself, though?

In your mind, your body, your emotions and your finances?
You'll be out the door and in the sunshine while everyone else is rubbing the sleep from their eyes.

Mindfulness and Meditation

Head, Man, Person, People, Face, Profile

WHAT EXACTLY IS MINDFULNESS?
Mindfulness is not just a way of thinking about others and their state of mind, but it can also be used a form of meditation. Using Mindfulness Meditation allows you to focus on the moment, becoming aware of your senses and what you are feeling right then and there. When you are able to focus just on that particular moment, there is no need to try to interpret things or make judgments about how you feel. You are simply present. If you have ever studied Eckhart Tolle or other spiritual teachers, you realize that the present moment is all that actually exists. The past no longer exists, and the future has not yet come. So focusing, being mindful, of the moment, can help you relax and eliminate stress. Think about all the time we spend planning for, or worrying about the future, thinking negative thoughts about the past, worrying about all the things we need to do - pick up the kids from school, make dinner tonight, pay the bills, etc. All those things are draining and can even be exhausting. When you are able to be mindful, you are able to put those things away, and focus your attention on the present moment, which reduces your stress and anxiety. Mindfulness meditation can be very powerful!

WHY SHOULD I MEDITATE? For years, spiritual teachers and their students have been practicing meditation, and espousing its benefits. Now, thanks to advances in modern science and medicine, there are actually many clinical trials that scientifically back up these claims. It is amazing that for hundreds of years people have known that meditation works, but there is always a certain percentage of the population that needs to know how and why before they will believe it. There are so many studies now that provide empirical data as to the how and why of meditation, and its effects on the body and brain. Those studies are so diverse that they need to be in a separate article on their own. But suffice to say that the overall evidence of these studies show that meditation is effective for reducing stress, anxiety, pain, depression, and even a host of "medical" conditions and disease.

The best way to develop your mindfulness meditation routine is to practice, practice, practice. Do so, and you may be truly amazed with the results.

Your Subconscious Mind And Why It Is So Important

Face, Soul, Head, Smoke, Light, Sad, Thoughts

Your Subconcious Mind

Did you know that you have at least two minds? Some experts believe that humans have three minds but we will keep it simple in this article. You have your conscious mind which is active when you are. It fills your head with chatter all of the time.
Then there is your subconscious mind which never sleeps. It remembers everything and will hold all of your values and beliefs. It shapes who you are and whether you will be successful or not. Fortunately you can change what is stored in your subconscious mind.
Your Subconscious doesn't care about Good and Bad
Perhaps "doesn't care" is not the right term - unable to distinguish between good and bad is probably more appropriate. Your subconscious mind will accept any information that you feed into it. The more that you think and act on that information the stronger it becomes.
Here is an example. If you had a bad experience in your life then this can become an irrational fear in your subconscious mind. Let's say that you were forced to speak in public and it didn't go well. You were extremely embarrassed by this event and you do not want to experience this again.
So you create a belief in your subconscious that you cannot do public speaking. You avoid every possible opportunity to speak in public and this strengthens the belief in your subconscious. This is a bad thing for you but your subconscious doesn't care. All it wants to do is protect you.
If you have negative thoughts about a specific thing or event then this will form a limiting belief in your subconscious mind. So if you have a goal to find a higher paying job then one of the skills that you will need is likely to be the ability to speak in public.
Your Conscious Mind is the Gatekeeper
Everything that is in your subconscious mind has been allowed to end up there via your conscious mind. So if you continually have negative thoughts about public speaking then you are telling your subconscious mind to protect you from it.
The good news here is that you can change your thoughts in your conscious mind to remove or replace limiting beliefs in your subconscious. This is something that you will need to work on and it is not magic. You need to be persistent if you want to make changes to your subconscious.
Neutralize Negative Thoughts
You can neutralize the negative thoughts that you experience with positive ones. So if you have a thought that says "I can never speak in public" you can neutralize this with "I can speak in public because I can do anything".
By neutralizing your negative thoughts in this way you will send the right signals to your subconscious mind to pave the way to change any limiting beliefs. The next step in the process is to show your subconscious that you really mean business by taking action.
Tackle your Irrational Fears
Whatever irrational fears you have the best way to tackle them is to just do it anyway. So if you have a fear of public speaking then get out there and do some public speaking! You can start in a small way with a friendly audience. Learn as much as you can about the subject and practice regularly.

Does the Law of Attraction Work?

Be careful what you wish for'', the famous saying we all blurt out in our day to day conversations. This saying is so powerful as I associate it with the ''law of attraction'', attracting like for like. What we put out there is what we receive, do you believe in that law, that we are part of the universal matrix of energy and frequencies? The energy that we expend out there we get the same back. We are governed by laws of the universe we live in, what others may term as ''karma''. People often say they find the things they don't like manifest in their reality quicker than what they truly love. That I find is how our mindset is designed, we are creatures of fear, and let's remember, fear is an emotion as much as happiness and sadness are. We fear a lot about lack of money, no one loving us, or having a bad day. What if we program our minds to think positively? Do you think then we will attract what we love? We have to be really careful about what we say because when we instill emotion in the things we say those that we say we then attract. The flip side to this is how difficult it is to be positive when you are not in the head space or when your surroundings are not supporting the emotion.
A few years ago I purchased the renowned ''The Secret'' book to try and understand how the law of attraction works and to also aid me in shifting my mindset. I began to understand that we can create our own reality and our own heaven. I am from a Christian background and growing up I was taught that when we die we either go to heaven (if we're good) or we go to hell! I lived my life according to that rule, until I went through some life experiences that led me to searching for ''my truth''. I came to realize that I am my own creator of the reality I want to live in, I can create and enjoy heaven, while I'm still on this earth. To live life to the fullest and live a life of peace, abundance and positivity all governed by the greatest law of all, ''Love''. By living your life to the fullest with love and positivity, everything around you will support a beautiful reality. I have not reached that ultimate state of living, I am a work in progress and living day to day reminding myself that I am a co creator of my reality. What are the steps we need to take in order to lead a fulfilling reality?
Firstly It starts with us, our inner being, the soul within us. Being of a mind that is free from judging, free from negative influences, that's not to say we are free from life struggles. It is important to recognize how we deal with the hiccups that are thrown our way. I remember how I used to struggle with slow drivers in front of me, that used to annoy me so much I'd be cursing in my car, winding myself up and getting agitated, guess what? The more I got annoyed the more I had slow driver occurrences. After reading and getting to understanding the law of attraction I realized I was actually attracting more of this so I decided to switch my mindset and accepting of the slow drivers, sometimes acting as if I wasn't noticing them, I slowly started noticing It wasn't happening as much as it used to before. I became more patient and accepting that the driver in front of me, had as much right to be in that place at that given time.
Believing in your self worth, valuing your being and loving yourself are key to finding your higher self and attracting the things you desire. This is no magic, it is something each and every one of us is entitled to. Spread your wings and discover your potential and most of all, love yourself more than you've ever loved!
